Since the diagnostic capacity is essential to monitor the epidemic,screening tests are crucial to fight against Covid-19. With the intention of contributing to this fight, University of Namur has developed an analytical method based on a technique for extracting RNA (genetic information from the virus).
The global shortage of specific proprietary reagents has significantly slowed the diagnostics. Fortunately, this new screening test doesn't use the usual reagents. Therefore, this method is easily applicable in every molecular biology laboratory around the world as long as there is enough staff. The aim is to achieve 500 tests per day in each laboratory.
